Into The Mood (Mood’s Lounge, McAllen Tx)

Everybody should know by now that downtown McAllen is transforming into an entertainment mecca for nightlife in the region.  And with McAllen’s 1st Annual  New Year’s Ball Drop taking place on the transformed 17th St. Entertainment District, a lot of these newer bars and clubs will be taking people in to showcase what they have in store for the future of downtown.  However, a few blocks away on Beaumont St. and Broadway, there stands a lounge that is gaining a reputation as a good nightspot for rock bands and underground events.  Mood’s Lounge may not be the most posh spot in downtown McAllen but it does pack a punch.  Since most nightlife people are starting to venture into the downtown area for some partying, one might as well stop by this lounge to discover for themselves what it is about.  

On some weekends, one can find some of South Texas most elite metal and hardcore bands playing their hearts out at this nightspot.  On some Saturday nights, known as Night Shift, you may also catch an underground Goth/Industrial event featuring the region’s best underground dj’s serving up some SynthPop, Retro 80’s, Goth, Industrial, EBM, and Darkwave.  Sometime you can wander in and catch an indie band playing and just a few hours later, catch a techno party all under the same roof.  It is a very cool place to relax and chill out at.

The place is not that big, but the energy is a good one during one of their weekend events.  The drink specials are some of the best in the entire nightlife scene.  And just to shove it in the face of the posh clubs downtown that are charging an arm and a leg to party in their places for New Year’s Eve, Mood’s Lounge is letting people in for FREE with complimentary champagne at midnight!  So if that isn’t motivation to walk a few blocks from the huge crowd then I don’t know what is?  The bar staff is great and the drinks will get you in the state you need to be at…in a badass party mood! Be sure to ask for a Long Beach drink.  It is like a Long Island but better tasting.

You will not have to drive around the block several times to find parking either, there is plenty of parking around this place.  So take it from the Klubstalker and venture into Mood’s Lounge one of these nights during one of their events.  You will have a good time.  And if you get plastered while you party your ass off at Mood’s, then there is Taco Palenque right down 10th St. to fill up that gut of yours.  So remember, be safe and don’t drive drunk.
