The Burning Brides of India
Every so often we do a spotlight on local artist. This month is Lisette Chavez. We met her at a local pop culture convention and fell in love with her beautifully macabre art. Check out our interview and then check out her art.
The following is an excerpt of the interview:
“People usually ask me why my artwork is so macabre but it really happens subconsciously. I remember being critiqued in college, everyone always said that my paintings/drawings were very gloomy so I decided to go the art store and buy as many bright colors as I possibly could. On the following critique, everyone mentioned how much they loved the bright colors but the emotion behind my pieces were still depressing. I think people see things in different ways and some of us are just born with heavier sentiments than others.”
